The City Council of El Prat de Llobregat has launched an innovative hybrid carsharing service featuring electric vehicles, aligned with its sustainable mobility strategy under the Climate Emergency Declaration. This service allows municipal staff to utilize the electric vehicles during work hours, while making them available to the general public outside of operating hours.

To ensure the seamless operation of this electric fleet, the City Council trusted Etecnic, experts in electric vehicle charging solutions. The company carried out the installation of 18 charging sockets of 22 kW (across 7 dual-outlet chargers) alongside 2 fast chargers of 50 kW.

Strategic infrastructure driven by a sustainable vision

Located within the Barcelona Metropolitan Area in the Baix Llobregat region, El Prat is furthering its commitment to sustainable mobility by capitalizing on European Next Generation funds. These initiatives aim to curb transport-related CO₂ emissions and advance environmental sustainability.

Etecnic installed charging points across key locations throughout the city to power the carsharing network. Locations include:

  • Plaza España: 1 fast charger and 2 semi-fast chargers.
  • Center for Economic Promotion: 1 fast charger and 1 semi-fast charger.
  • Casas de Puig: 2 semi-fast chargers.
  • Galileo Galilei School: 2 semi-fast chargers.

With this deployment, El Prat de Llobregat stands out as the Catalan municipality with under 100,000 residents hosting the largest shared vehicle fleet in the region.

Booking and operation powered by technology

The service is accessible via the mobile app El Prat Carsharing, available for download on Google Play and the App Store. The fleet currently features 8 vehicles, with plans to expand to 12—including a van—according to local authorities.

Carsharing operation and charging network

Electric vehicles are parked in designated bays equipped with charging points installed by Etecnic. Users must return vehicles to their original pick-up point and plug them in for recharge. Charging point management is powered through the EVcharge app, available across major app stores.

Through this initiative, El Prat de Llobregat and Etecnic are championing sustainable mobility, curbing CO₂ emissions, and establishing a benchmark in the transition toward cleaner, more efficient transport.
