The network of charging points for electric vehicles in Spain has reached a historic milestone in 2024 with a total of 40,438 operational charging points, according to data from AEDIVE (Business Association for the Development and Promotion of Electric Mobility).

This volume represents an increase of 33.2% compared to the 2023 financial year, consolidating Spain as a benchmark in the transition towards electric mobility.

The last quarter of 2024 was particularly outstanding, with 3,302 public access charging points installed and commissioned, reaching an average of 1,100 new points per month. This momentum allowed the year to close with 10,088 activated points, the highest interannual record since historical records have been kept.

One of the most relevant aspects of this growth has been the commitment to high-power charging points. Chargers from 50 kW to 250 kW experienced a growth of 15% in the last quarter, while those over 250 kW grew by 17%, reflecting the interest in meeting the needs of drivers making interurban journeys.

In terms of regional distribution, Catalonia, Madrid, and Andalusia lead in the number of charging points, with Catalonia being a clear example of the commitment to the electrification of transport.

Etecnic: a fundamental pillar in the charging infrastructure in Spain and Catalonia

In this scenario, Etecnic, one of the most prominent companies in the electric mobility sector, has contributed significantly to the development of charging infrastructure in Spain. The company manages a total of 4,318 operational charging points, representing more than 10% of the total charging points in the country.

The distribution of Etecnic’s charging points reflects a strategy adapted to user needs:

  • 3,385 points (78%) are chargers under 50 kW, ideal for urban environments.
  • 811 points (19%) are fast chargers, with power capacities above 50 kW, designed to reduce waiting times on longer journeys.
  • 122 points (2.8%) are ultra-fast, with power capacities above 150 kW, designed for almost instantaneous charging.

Etecnic’s strong presence in Catalonia, with more than 2,500 operational chargers, consolidates this autonomous community as a leader in charging infrastructure, ensuring the region is prepared for the future of sustainable mobility.

All these charging points are managed through the EVcharge SaaS platform, which offers a comprehensive solution for the intelligent and efficient management of the infrastructure.
