ETECNIC successfully completes innovative dynamic pricing project, “Smart Pricing”, for electric vehicle charging funded by the EU
Completion of the project “Smart pricing for charging points at service stations”, developed at our headquarters in Reus, Tarragona. This project was funded by the European Union through the NextGenerationEU program under the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, and managed by IDAE.
This innovative project aims to develop tools to implement a dynamic electric vehicle charging tariff that responds dynamically to demand fluctuations and energy production conditions.
Project Description
The project consisted of simulating a service station equipped with advanced EV charging infrastructure. Three types of charging stations were installed: semi-fast (up to 22 kW per outlet), fast (up to 50 kW per outlet), and ultra-fast (up to 180 kW per outlet), allowing us to analyze and optimize operating costs while gaining a deeper understanding of user preferences.
Objectives
To achieve this objective, Etecnic implemented a pilot project at its facilities simulating real-world service station conditions. This environment features three types of charging equipment: semi-fast, capable of delivering up to 22 kW per outlet; fast, with capacity up to 50 kW per outlet; and ultra-fast, offering up to 180 kW per outlet. This variety enables Etecnic to differentiate charging costs and better understand user preferences.
Additionally, the project includes the installation of a 50 kW photovoltaic solar plant and an energy storage system using repurposed batteries with a total capacity of 160 kWh. This setup facilitates solar energy surplus management and enables energy sales during peak demand hours at more competitive prices.
The “Smart Pricing Pack” developed by Etecnic also integrates artificial intelligence to adjust prices in real time based on multiple factors, such as energy production, charging point demand, and weather conditions, among others.
Expected Benefits and Results
This approach improves profitability for charging station operators while providing end users with more affordable prices, thereby driving greater adoption of electric vehicles.
EU Financial Support
With an initial estimated investment of 374,536.75 euros, the project was approved to receive a grant of 183,552.14 euros, representing 60% of the eligible cost.
This Etecnic project promotes the use of advanced, sustainable technologies and contributes to the decarbonization of the transport sector, aligning with European Union objectives to move toward a greener and more efficient energy infrastructure.

General Aspects of the Program
The Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge has approved Order TED/800/2021, of July 23, approving the regulatory bases for the Incentive Program for Singular Projects in Electric Mobility (MOVES Singular Projects II Program), endowed with 100 million euros and aimed at the selection and awarding, on a competitive basis, of grants corresponding to singular projects and projects related to experimental and innovative developments carried out within Spanish territory related to electric vehicles.
The MOVES Singular Projects II program is part of Component 1, Investment 2 of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (PRTR).
The MOVES Singular Projects II program will be managed by IDAE.
