At Etecnic, we continue to expand our reach in the field of sustainable mobility, participating in innovation projects that allow us to explore new applications of intelligent energy management. In this context, we are part of TRENERGY – Automation in railway depots for sustainable and decarbonized mobility, an R&D initiative developed alongside leading companies in the railway sector, technology centers, and research organizations.
The project aims to move towards a more efficient, digital, and sustainable railway operation model, contributing to the decarbonization of transport and the optimization of energy systems associated with mobility.
TRENERGY is part of the Science and Innovation Missions Program, one of the main initiatives supporting strategic R&D projects in Spain.
Applying energy intelligence to the railway environment
The energy transition not only impacts road electric mobility, but also key sectors such as the railway industry. In this context, efficient energy management becomes a critical element to improve infrastructure operations.
Within the project, Etecnic leads the work lines related to advanced energy management in railway depots, transferring its experience in the development and operation of electrical infrastructures and smart management systems.
The work focuses on analyzing new technological approaches that allow:
- Optimizing the use of energy in transport infrastructures.
- Integrating different energy sources into the same operating environment.
- Intelligently planning charging processes.
- Improving the operational efficiency of the facilities.
These research lines lay the foundations for more efficient, resilient railway infrastructures prepared for the challenges of the energy transition.
New digital tools for a smarter railway system
In addition to energy management, the project explores the use of advanced digital technologies to improve the planning, validation, and deployment of solutions in the railway environment.
One of the keys to the project is the development of virtual validation environments, which allow testing and evaluating new technologies before their implementation in real environments. This approach facilitates decision-making, reduces risks, and accelerates the integration of innovation into daily operations.
Thanks to this, progress is being made towards smarter, safer, and more sustainable railway systems, capable of adapting to an increasingly demanding environment in terms of efficiency and decarbonization.

TRENERGY is developed within the framework of a consortium made up of leading technological and railway companies, together with specialized technology centers and universities.
This innovation ecosystem allows addressing the sector’s challenges from a multidisciplinary perspective, combining industrial knowledge, applied research, and technological development to generate real solutions with an impact on the market.

ETECNIC MOVILIDAD ELECTRICA S.L. has been a beneficiary of a grant awarded by the Center for the Development of Technology and Innovation (CDTI) for the execution of the project TRENERGY – Automation in railway depots for sustainable and decarbonized mobility.
