Project Description
Tarragona positions itself as a benchmark in electric mobility with the inauguration of the charging station “LOW COST Chargers by WEIDERAUTO ELECTRIC”, an ambitious project aimed at promoting sustainability, accessibility, and competitiveness in electric vehicle charging.
Etecnic, as a leader in comprehensive electric mobility solutions, has developed a landmark charging station for WEIDERAUTO ELECTRIC equipped with ultra-fast chargers and powered by solar photovoltaic energy, guaranteeing fast, sustainable charging with zero-kilometer green energy.
Identifying needs, regulations, and grants
The project stems from the detection of a real need for fast and accessible charging infrastructure in a strategic area with high traffic and logistical activity, located between Tarragona and Salou, near the highway.
Thomas Weider and Oliver Güell, founders of WEIDERAUTO ELECTRIC and EV drivers for nearly a decade, identified the opportunity to promote a charging model that would facilitate the continuity of electric mobility, offering competitive prices and simple access for all types of users.
The project has benefited from MOVES III Plan grants, with Etecnic guiding WEIDERAUTO ELECTRIC through the documentation management and subsidy processing, facilitating the development and viability of the infrastructure.
WeiderAuto Electric:
9 ultra-fast chargers, for a total of 18 electric vehicle charging spots
Contracted services
Project Description
The charging station is located in a strategic industrial park between Tarragona and Salou, in an easily accessible area, ideal for users—both individuals and transportation professionals—looking to charge their vehicles quickly, conveniently, and efficiently.
The project includes the installation of:
-
9 ultra-fast chargers, of which 8 are 120 kW and 1 is 180 kW
-
18 electrified bays, optimizing charging times and improving the user experience
The electric vehicle charging station is powered by a solar photovoltaic plant with a rated capacity of 360 kW, enabling sustainable charging using locally generated green energy.
To ensure accessibility, the station offers multiple payment methods, including:
-
EVcharge APP, which allows users to charge and pay in just two clicks
-
Payment kiosk with POS terminal, enabling charging without registration or downloading an app, making access easy for both domestic and international users
The station is integrated into the EVcharge network, which promotes connectivity, interoperability with other EMSPs, and increases the visibility of the chargers, facilitating access for a larger number of users.
Regarding safety, the infrastructure features an Etecnic alarm system that detects cable theft attempts, improving service availability and user satisfaction.
MOVES III Program
The “LOW COST Chargers by WEIDERAUTO ELECTRIC” project was developed with support from the MOVES III Plan. Etecnic guided WEIDERAUTO ELECTRIC throughout the subsidy management and application process, facilitating access to grants and ensuring the smooth execution of the project.
This support has been key to promoting a charging infrastructure based on renewable energy and aligned with sustainable mobility goals.
Experience, approachability, and commitment to a comprehensive electric mobility project
The expertise of Etecnic’s engineering department has made it possible to offer a comprehensive 360º service, which includes:
-
Consulting
-
Grant management and procedures
-
Infrastructure installation
-
Software and APP powered by EVcharge
-
Maintenance and 24/7 support
The EVcharge platform centralizes the smart management of the chargers, ensuring their operation, maintenance, and availability, improving operational efficiency, and reducing maintenance costs.
The project stands out for its commitment to sustainability, thanks to the 360 nominal kW solar photovoltaic plant, capable of generating 408,000 kWh annually, which translates to savings of 1,200 kg of CO₂ daily, equivalent to driving 7,400 km in an electric vehicle. In a second phase, the installation of a photovoltaic canopy is planned to increase renewable energy capture.
Additionally, the project incorporates tariff innovation through EVcharge’s Smart Pricing module, which in a second phase will allow for dynamic rates based on artificial intelligence, taking into account solar production, energy costs, and user habits.
Thanks to this technology, WEIDERAUTO ELECTRIC will be able to offer competitive prices, with rates below 29 cents and down to 19 cents through charging coupons, as well as special conditions for groups such as the taxi sector.
This project consolidates WEIDERAUTO ELECTRIC and Etecnic as key players in the transition toward accessible, sustainable, and innovative electric mobility.
