UCG installs the first ultra-fast charger in Igualada
Customer:
UCG (RE+)
Customer type:
Gas station
Company:
Etecnic360
Project Description
UCG (Unió Comercial de Gasoil), currently rebranded as RE+, has evolved from traditional fuel distribution toward a multi-energy service station model, incorporating new solutions adapted to current mobility needs.
As part of this transformation, the company has committed to electric mobility with the installation in Igualada of the first ultra-fast charger in the area, developed alongside Etecnic.
The infrastructure is managed through the EVcharge platform, which allows centralized monitoring and management of the charging point. The project also includes 24/7 maintenance and remote support services, ensuring continuity and availability of service.
With this initiative, RE+ expands its energy offering and moves toward a more flexible model, capable of responding to both traditional fuel users and electric vehicle drivers.
Identifying needs, regulations, and grants
In 2019, UCG was already considering the possibility of incorporating services for electric vehicles. At that time, electric vehicle adoption in its sphere of influence was low compared to major cities like Barcelona, but they nevertheless identified a market opportunity given the progressive growth in demand for fast charging.
From a strategic perspective, UCG decided not to partner with large companies offering models based on space rental without knowledge transfer or direct investment. Instead, they opted to make the investment and directly manage the installation and operation of the electric charger, leveraging a strategic site of their own.
As part of the project, Etecnic provided not only the ultra-fast charger, but also subsidy management and the administrative procedures required for the implementation of the infrastructure.
Igualada:
First ultra-fast charger
Contracted services
Experience, approachability, and commitment to a comprehensive electric mobility project
The addition of the ultra-fast charger has allowed RE+ to diversify its services and position itself as a multi-energy and multi-service station, attracting a new profile of customers interested in electric mobility.
Directly managing the project enabled UCG to gain insights into the operational side and market needs of EV charging, facilitating learning and preparation for future expansions.
Access to the EVcharge user network makes the charging point visible and accessible to a broad community of electric vehicle drivers, who can easily charge using the app.
The Igualada charging point serves as a pilot project. Depending on its success, RE+ plans to expand this infrastructure to other stations and is exploring the integration of electric vehicles into its rental business, RE+ Rent a Car.
UCG’s (RE+) success story reflects a company’s transformation toward a model adapted to new energy market demands, through a diversification strategy and collaboration with Etecnic to deliver a comprehensive electric mobility service.
