Michael Arroyave, COO of Etecnic, participated in the roundtable discussion organized by “Empresas por la Movilidad Sostenible” at the National Environmental Congress (CONAMA) 2024. The event highlighted public-private collaboration as key to the implementation of Low Emission Zones (ZBE) in Spain and the improvement of air quality.
In the field of public transport electrification, Michael shared Etecnic’s experience, highlighting how the EVcharge platform has been essential for managing and monitoring electric buses in cities like Cali and Bogotá. In 2019, Bogotá did not have any electric buses; however, backed by a solid financial framework, it managed to implement 800 units in 2020 and reach 1,500 in 2022, positioning itself as a leader outside of China. This growth was supported by the EVcharge system, which guaranteed operational and energy efficiency, while also serving as a model for other cities, such as Medellín. The next major challenge for Bogotá is to fully electrify its fleet, prioritizing both sustainability and efficiency.
This event highlights the importance of collaboration between public administrations and private companies to promote more sustainable mobility and reduce pollution in cities. The exchange of experiences, such as those of Bogotá and Cali, demonstrates how electric transport management technologies can improve both resources and environmental impact. Michael Arroyave reaffirmed Etecnic’s commitment to sustainability, emphasizing that working together and using advanced technologies not only help achieve environmental goals but also allow cities to better adapt to future challenges in an efficient and sustainable manner.
