Tarragona becomes a benchmark in electric mobility with the inauguration of the “Cargadores LOW COST by WEIDERAUTO ELECTRIC” charging station, an ambitious and comprehensive project to promote sustainability and accessibility in electric mobility
Etecnic, a leader in comprehensive electric mobility solutions, has developed a charging station for WEIDERAUTO ELECTRIC equipped with 120 kW and 180 kW ultra-fast chargers, powered by a solar photovoltaic plant with a nominal capacity of 360 kW. This reference HUB guarantees ultra-fast, sustainable, and competitive charging sessions, contributing to the transition towards accessible mobility powered by km0 green energy.
Project starting point
The location of the charging station is key, situated in an industrial estate between Tarragona and Salou, close to the highway and in an area with high traffic and logistical activity. It is ideal for all types of users looking to charge easily, comfortably, and quickly.
Thomas Weider and Oliver Güell, founders of WEIDERAUTO ELECTRIC, detected the need and opportunity for the project to contribute to electric mobility. Thomas Weider commented: “We have been electric vehicle users for almost 10 years. We trust in electric mobility and, therefore, four years ago we launched ourselves into this project to contribute to the continuity of electric mobility.”

State-of-the-art infrastructure
The project includes the installation of 9 ultra-fast chargers (8 of 120 kW and 1 of 180 kW), totaling 18 electrified parking spaces, optimizing charging times and improving the experience for electric vehicle users. Additionally, the charging station features multiple payment methods, including the innovative EVcharge APP and a payment totem with POS terminal, guaranteeing convenience and accessibility for all user profiles, allowing access without the need for registration or downloading an APP.

Accessibility for all users
The charging station is integrated into the EVcharge network, promoting connectivity and universal access to electric mobility. Users can enjoy a simplified experience with the EVcharge APP, which allows charging and paying in just two clicks, or use the payment totem for fast transactions without registration. Oliver Güell, co-owner of WEIDERAUTO ELECTRIC, stated: “The payment totem is an important element to facilitate access for any user, national or foreign, without the need to download a mobile application.”
Advanced security
To guarantee the availability and operation of the charging stations, the site features an Etecnic alarm system that detects cable theft attempts, improving security as well as customer and user satisfaction.
Engineering present throughout the entire 360º circle
The experience and knowledge of the Etecnic engineering department offers an end-to-end service that includes consulting, subsidy and paperwork management, installation, software and APP with EVcharge, maintenance, and 24/7 support, ensuring an optimal experience for users.
The project has benefited from the MOVES III Plan grants, with Etecnic accompanying WEIDERAUTO ELECTRIC in document management and subsidy processing.
Jorge Ríos, CEO of Etecnic, highlighted: “This project is to date the most important one for Etecnic. Thanks to our 360 service we have offered consulting, the MOVES III subsidy, comprehensive project management, and the installation of over 300 kW of renewable energy to complete the circle of sustainable mobility. Furthermore, we feature the EVcharge payment totem which allows users to charge and pay in less than a minute with a credit card.”
Intelligent management with EVcharge
The EVcharge platform centralizes the intelligent management of the chargers, ensuring their operation, maintenance, and 24/7 support. This 360º solution improves operational efficiency, reduces maintenance costs, and guarantees the availability of charging points, thus facilitating access to electric mobility and promoting its expansion.
Thanks to the interoperability enabled by EVcharge, the WEIDERAUTO ELECTRIC chargers are interoperable, allowing them to be used with other EMSPs with the aim of increasing the visibility of the chargers and facilitating access to more users.
Commitment to sustainability
The station features a solar photovoltaic plant with a nominal capacity of 360 kW capable of generating 408,000 kWh annually, which saves 1,200 kg of CO2 daily, equivalent to traveling 7,400 km with an electric vehicle. In a second phase, the installation of a photovoltaic pergola is planned to increase the capture of renewable energy, consolidating the environmental commitment of the project.
Pricing innovation with EVcharge Smart Pricing
The project will also include the new EVcharge module “Smart Pricing”, which in a second phase will implement dynamic tariffs based on artificial intelligence. This system will optimize charging costs by considering factors such as solar production, energy costs, and usage habits, offering more competitive prices. EVcharge offers an intelligent pricing proposal that helps increase the number of charges at the stations.
Competitive prices and purchase coupons
Thanks to technology and innovation, the LOW COST chargers from WEIDERAUTO ELECTRIC will also offer competitive prices to users through purchase coupons with EVcharge. Users will be able to purchase coupons to charge their vehicles at even lower prices. Additionally, WEIDERAUTO ELECTRIC offers advantages to the public transport sector, such as taxi drivers, with special rates.
Oliver Güell, co-owner of WEIDERAUTO ELECTRIC, explained: “Electric mobility allows us to offer very competitive prices. Our goal is to offer ultra-fast charging at prices below 29 cents, even reaching 19 cents with charging coupons. All this is possible thanks to the photovoltaic panels that reduce the procurement cost of electrical energy.”
