Tarragona becomes a benchmark in electric mobility with the inauguration of the ‘LOW COST Chargers by WEIDERAUTO ELECTRIC’ station an ambitious and comprehensive project to promote sustainability and accessibility in electric mobility.

Etecnic, a leader in comprehensive electric mobility solutions, has developed for WEIDERAUTO ELECTRIC a charging station equipped with ultra-fast 120 kW and 180 kW chargers powered by a 300 kW solar photovoltaic plant. This flagship HUB ensures ultra-fast, sustainable, and competitive charging, driving the transition towards accessible mobility powered by local green energy

Project starting point

The location of the charging station is key, in an industrial area between Tarragona and Salou, close to the highway and in a zone with high traffic and logistics activity. It is ideal for all types of users seeking easy, convenient, and fast charging.

Thomas Weider and Oliver Güell, founders of WEIDERAUTO ELECTRIC, identified the need and opportunity of this project to contribute to electric mobility. Thomas Weider commented: ‘We have been electric vehicle users for almost 10 years. We believe in electric mobility, and that is why, four years ago, we embarked on this project to support the continuity of electric mobility”.

Cutting-edge infraestructure

The project includes the installation of 9 ultra-fast chargers (8 of 120 kW and 1 of 180 kW), totaling 18 electrified spaces, optimizing charging times and enhancing the experience of electric vehicle users. In addition, the charging station offers multiple payment methods, including the innovative EVcharge APP and a payment kiosk with POS terminal, ensuring convenience and accessibility for all user profiles, with access available without registration or app download.

Accessibility for all users

The charging station is integrated into the EVcharge network, promoting connectivity and universal access to electric mobility. Users can enjoy a simplified experience with the EVcharge APP, enabling charging and payment in just two clicks, or use the payment kiosk for quick transactions without registration. Advanced security

To ensure the availability and operation of the charging stations, the facility is equipped with an Etecnic alarm system that detects cable theft attempts, enhancing security and improving both customer and user satisfaction.

The expertise and knowledge of Etecnic’s engineering department provide a comprehensive service that includes consulting, subsidy management and paperwork, installation, software and the EVcharge APP, maintenance, and 24/7 support — ensuring an optimal experience for users.

The project has benefited from funding through the MOVES III Plan, with Etecnic supporting WEIDERAUTO ELECTRIC in managing documentation and subsidy applications.

Thanks to EVcharge’s interoperability, WEIDERAUTO ELECTRIC chargers are compatible with other EMSPs, increasing their visibility and making them accessible to more users.

Commitment to sustainability

The station features a 375 kWp photovoltaic solar plant capable of generating 408,000 kWh annually, saving 1,200 kg of CO₂ per day, equivalent to driving 7,400 km with an electric vehicle. In a second phase, a photovoltaic canopy will be installed to increase renewable energy production, strengthening the project’s environmental commitment.

Innovation in pricing with EVcharge Smart Pricing

The project will also include EVcharge’s new “Smart Pricing” module, which in a second phase will implement AI-based dynamic tariffs. This system will optimize charging costs by taking into account factors such as solar production, energy costs, and usage habits, delivering more competitive prices. EVcharge offers a smart pricing solution designed to increase the number of charges at the stations.

Thanks to technology and innovation, WEIDERAUTO ELECTRIC’s LOW COST chargers will also offer users competitive prices through EVcharge shopping coupons. Users will be able to purchase coupons to charge their vehicles at even lower rates. In addition, WEIDERAUTO ELECTRIC provides special benefits to the public transport sector, such as taxi drivers, with exclusive pricing.
