Project Description
The Ajuntament del Prat de Llobregat continues to make progress in its commitment to more sustainable mobility with the second expansion phase of its municipal charging network for electric vehicles. This new stage reinforces the municipality’s commitment to reducing CO₂ emissions and promoting cleaner, more efficient transport alternatives.
The expansion consolidates El Prat as a benchmark in electric mobility, equipping the municipality with a more robust, accessible charging infrastructure prepared to serve both citizens and municipal services.
Identifying needs, regulations, and grants
The growth in electric vehicle adoption within the municipality created the need to expand and reinforce the existing charging infrastructure, aiming to offer an improved service to public users, the municipal carsharing service, and the council’s internal fleet.
The initial project was developed within the framework of the Climate Emergency Declaration of the Ajuntament del Prat de Llobregat, aligning with emissions reduction targets derived from transport.
Prat de Llobregat:
9 chargers
Contracted services
Project Description
The second expansion phase of the electric charging network included the installation of three new charging points in Plaça Espanya, which complement the existing infrastructure.
Currently, the municipal charging network consists of:
-
7 semi-fast 22 kW chargers
-
2 fast 50 kW chargers, designed for quicker charging sessions
-
3 new charging points added in this expansion
Overall, El Prat de Llobregat has 24 electrified spaces, 12 of which are for public use, reinforcing accessibility and service efficiency for electric vehicle users.
During 2024, the charging network demonstrated high usage levels, reflecting its consolidation and utility:
-
9,526 charging sessions completed
-
505 unique users
-
104,562 kWh of energy supplied, with an average of 10 kWh per session
-
Average charging time of 139 minutes per session
Thanks to this infrastructure, 87,867 kg of CO₂ emissions have been avoided, which is equivalent to approximately 700,000 km driven by a combustion vehicle or the annual energy consumption of 35 households in Spain.
In addition, since January 2024, the municipal service El Prat Carsharing has a fleet of 12 electric vehicles, including 2 vans for light cargo transport. This hybrid model allows municipal employees to use the vehicles during working hours and makes them available to the general public outside of those hours, optimizing municipal resources and promoting more sustainable mobility.
MOVES III Program
The initial deployment project for the electric charging network in El Prat de Llobregat has been subsidized through the MOVES III program, with support from the European Next Generation funds.
This program has been a key element in driving electric mobility in the municipality, facilitating the creation of an infrastructure that directly contributes to reducing CO₂ emissions and achieving the climate targets set by the City Council.
Experience, approachability, and commitment to a comprehensive electric mobility project
The collaboration with Etecnic, a company specializing in EV charging solutions, has been fundamental to the success of the project. As an operator and infrastructure provider, Etecnic has contributed its expertise and technology to ensure a reliable and efficient service.
The management of the charging points is carried out through the EVcharge platform, which allows real-time monitoring and control of the network status, improving the user experience and ensuring optimal infrastructure performance.
Thanks to this collaboration, El Prat de Llobregat City Council reinforces its commitment to a comprehensive, sustainable, and constantly evolving electric mobility model, positioning itself as a benchmark for other municipalities.
